Provides stable long-term sound and playability
“Duet+” is original Yamaha technology that produces an ABS resin bore lining. Duet+ originates from oboe design technology.
The instrument’s bore is protected by a resin layer.
The resin layer minimizes changes to the internal wood.
Precision is enhanced for more stable tone and pitch.
The likelihood of internal distortion and cracking due to humidity changes is reduced.
The instrument provides stable long-term sound and playability.
Know-how acquired through the production of custom models
Barrel's outer diameter: A shape that promotes efficient breath flow through the instrument. The barrel gets slightly smaller toward the mouthpiece for easy blowing and flexible response to expressive nuances. Slightly larger at the lower end.
Bell: The interior features an original Yamaha shape that results in improved B pitch.
Can be played naturally even by small children
The adjustable thumb rest can be set to a height that is most comfortable for individual players, reducing thumb discomfort and fatigue.
It can be set to make fingering comfortable for players with small hands and can be readjusted as necessary as the player grows and becomes more proficient. The thumb rest also includes a ring that can provide a convenient location for strap attachment when needed.

Yamaha clarinets have achieved sound quality and superb intonation by dramatically improving precision and stability. Also to cope with various quality issues inherent in wooden instruments. Duet+ models employ innovative techniques to form a protective layer next to the air column. The combination of precious wood and state-of-the-art resin is not simply a “Duet” of tradition and technology – it’s a “Plus” advantage indeed. This innovative technology, which premiered with our oboes, has been brought to the clarinet after extensive engineering specific to the instrument. The upper joint body is drilled out slightly larger around the bore and tone-holes. Thermoplastic ABS resin is injected into the cavity, instantly forming the inner shape of a clarinet. It is designed to preserve as much virtue of traditional clarinets as possible, while its natural appearance is hardly distinguishable from conventional all-wooden models.
Silver-plated nickel silver keys give a softer, warmer sound.
A new adjustable thumb-rest accommodates different sized hands helping the player develop proper playing technique. In addition, a strap ring allows for the instrument to be held without extra effort. Firmer screws and silver soldered ring gives this new feature excellent durability.
The YCL-450M incorporates the same taper screws as YCL-650 that makes adjustments easier than ever.
A new register vent tube shape improves pronunciation in the second register. Whereas the YCL-450 needs sufficient air pressure for good response, the YCL-450M offers great response, even with low air pressure, making it easy to play even for children.
