The PRS Silver Sky reimagines the classic single-coil guitar, refining every element to create something that feels both timeless and entirely its own. Born from an in-depth collaboration between Grammy Award winner John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith, the Silver Sky is the product of years of careful design and hands-on refinement. Drawing inspiration from beloved 1963 and 1964 instruments while embracing modern innovation, it captures the comfort and character of a well-loved vintage guitar with the precision and reliability of a contemporary build.

A number of carefully considered details help define the Silver Sky’s unique identity. The headstock, based on PRS’s signature shape, is inverted to suit Mayer’s playing style and to maintain consistent string length behind the nut, improving tuning stability. Vintage-style closed-back tuners feature PRS’s locking mechanism for enhanced performance. The steel tremolo bridges classic PRS engineering with Gen III knife-edge screws and is set flush to the body in its neutral position, allowing pitch to drop only. This increased body contact enhances acoustic resonance, boosting overall output and improving the signal-to-noise performance of the single-coil pickups. The custom 635JM pickups deliver a full, rounded tone with smooth, musical highs—clear and articulate without ever sounding harsh.

Players can choose between rosewood or maple fretboards. The maple option features the original 635JM neck carve, while the rosewood version has slightly softened shoulders for a more rounded, natural feel in the hand. Both neck shapes were developed through extensive vintage research and real-world stage testing with Mayer. Each features a vintage-inspired 7.25” fretboard radius for an authentic playing experience.

Additional premium touches include a bone nut, a curved molded metal jack plate for easy cable access, updated control knobs, and PRS’s double-acting truss rod, conveniently accessible at the headstock. A PRS premium gig bag is included.
