Shell
Classic Maple's standard 7-ply, 6mm shell is formulated for optimum resonance and tonality. Its center three-ply core panel (laminated in a horizontal/vertical/horizontal grain bond to a 2.4mm thickness,) is inserted between inner and outer two-ply panels through our proprietary RFST molding process.
To increase stability through out the drum, all Ludwig USA shells are produced using Radio Frequency Shell Technology. Using a process involving our historic bladder molds that date back to the late 1960's, R.F.S.T.'s unique bonding system -combined with a specialized, time-tested adhesive- cures each shell evenly over the entire surface of the shell. This process is truly a principal ingredient in creating the "Ludwig Sound" in every shell we make.
Bearing Edge
Each drum's bearing edge is cut to a 45-degree angle within 1/16" from the outside edge. This profile is critical for a wide tuning range, and maximum sustain. The edge is hand-sanded to the craftsman's touch to assure a smooth, even, flat surface for easy head seating; the final touch to complete the unmistakable Ludwig Sound.

This Classic Maple 3-piece shell pack delivers the legendary Ludwig sound. Classic Maple drums have become favorites of Sweetwater drummers for their warm, punchy, wide-ranging sound that's ideal for both the stage and the studio. This Classic Maple Pro Beat 3-piece shell pack includes a 24" bass drum, a 13" mounted tom with Atlas tom mount and tom holder, and a 16" floor tom with Triad leg mounts, enabling it to fit even better into a hard case for secure transport.
The Ludwig build process
Ludwig's Classic Maple shells are constructed of 7-ply North American maple for its high sensitivity, wide tuning range, and fast attack. They are molded with Ludwig's Radio Frequency Shell Technology (RFST). This process utilizes a unique bonding system and adhesive to ensure all the plies are evenly cured throughout the circumference of the shells. And a 45-degree bearing edge is hand-sanded for a flawless, flat surface that enhances the shell's sustain and harmonic presence.

The Ludwig legacy
Since 1909, Ludwig drums have enjoyed one of the proudest legacies in percussion. The world has heard them under the sticks of Cream's Ginger Baker, keeping the pulse behind Queen at Live Aid, and laying down the monstrous beat of Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks." But their biggest break came when Ringo Starr proudly played them on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, making Ludwig a household name for aspiring and superstar drummers alike.
