Description

First introduced in the early 1930s, the Gibson L-00 quickly emerged as one of the most recognized small-body acoustics in the Gibson lineup. Celebrated for its compact feel and remarkably balanced sound—captured in Gibson’s 1934 catalog as offering a tone of “perfect balance”—the L-Series has long been associated with parlor-style playing, thanks to its popularity in living rooms and home music spaces. This beloved guitar's appeal has endured for generations, making it a timeless choice for players seeking both comfort and exceptional sound.

Gibson now proudly unveils a fresh take on this revered design: the L-00 Century 12-Fret. While this edition preserves the core attributes that modern L-00 players appreciate, it features a 12-fret neck-to-body joint instead of the familiar 14-fret layout. This shift is not merely cosmetic; the 12-fret connection results in a slightly shorter neck and positions the bridge plate in a more central, resonant zone of the top. This strategic placement enhances the soundboard's efficiency, boosts playing comfort, and produces a warm, articulate, and lively tonality that responds beautifully to fingerstyle techniques and musicians with a lighter, more nuanced attack.

The L-00 Century 12-Fret boasts a mahogany neck that features a comfortable SlimTaper 12-Fret profile and is constructed using a compound dovetail joint secured with hot hide glue, reflecting the traditional build approach found throughout Gibson’s acoustic range. The rosewood fingerboard is equipped with 19 frets and understated mother-of-pearl dot inlays, ensuring an elegant yet functional design that complements the guitar’s aesthetics.

To complete its classic appeal, the headstock is adorned with open-back Golden Age strap tuners featuring cream buttons, along with an early-1900s-style Gibson script logo decal that adds an authentic vintage touch. Complementing these elements are period-inspired details such as the sloped-rectangle closed-slot rosewood bridge. The guitar also features a bone nut and saddle, TUSQ bridge pins, a classic L-00-style pickguard, and a hand-applied satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Each instrument is packaged in a premium Century Collection tweed hardshell case and is available in both right- and left-handed configurations. Experience the distinctive character and inviting resonance of a Gibson parlor acoustic with the L-00 Century 12-Fret.
