Since its debut in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird has established itself as an iconic and deeply cherished acoustic instrument. These guitars are meticulously handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, by Gibson’s team of skilled acoustic luthiers, and this new Hummingbird Special provides musicians with an accessible way to own a USA-made Gibson Hummingbird.

The instrument is built with a classic square-shouldered silhouette, utilizing solid mahogany for the back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top braced with traditional scalloped X-bracing. These tonewoods collaborate to produce a balanced, warm sound with a broad dynamic range suitable for every musical genre. Furthermore, the body features a "concert depth" profile that is thinner than the Hummingbird Standard, resulting in a tighter, leaner bass response that blends easily into any mix while remaining more comfortable to hold.

Connected to the body via a compound dovetail joint secured with hot hide glue, the utile neck is carved into a comfortable Round profile. The rosewood fretboard, which carries a 12” radius, hosts 20 standard frets and is decorated with the pearloid parallelogram inlays that serve as one of the Hummingbird’s most recognizable visual signatures.

Hardware components include a traditional belly-up rosewood bridge fitted with a TUSQ saddle, complemented by TUSQ bridge pins and a TUSQ nut. Tuning stability is maintained by premium Grover Rotomatic tuners, and the pickguard is adorned with a simplified rendition of the legendary Hummingbird graphic.

Finished in a satin nitrocellulose lacquer, the Hummingbird Special is also offered in left-handed configurations. It arrives stage- and studio-ready in a premium soft shell case, equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze under-saddle piezo pickup and an active preamp featuring a convenient volume control mounted inside the soundhole.
