The Hummingbird Elegant Koa is built with koa back and sides, a wood highly valued for its luminous aesthetic and bright, articulate sound. Although it possesses the high-end clarity often associated with maple, koa continuously gains warmth over time with consistent use, ultimately producing a lively, balanced tone characterized by sparkling highs. The instrument’s koa back is highlighted by a central three-rope marquetry strip, and this body is complemented by a top crafted from AAA Sitka spruce.

The guitar’s mahogany neck is carved into a comfortable Round profile and features a bound rosewood fretboard that houses 20 standard frets, decorated with striking abalone split parallelogram inlays. Topping off the headstock are an abalone Gibson logo and crown, a TUSQ® nut, and gold-plated Grover® Rotomatic® tuners.

Strings are secured by a rosewood belly-up bridge, which includes abalone dot inlays and is paired with a TUSQ saddle and bridge pins. The signature pickguard evolves the classic Hummingbird imagery—comprising a hummingbird, a butterfly, and various flowers—by incorporating a tortoise-shell hue finished with gold and silver-foil accents that shift and shimmer when viewed in different lighting conditions.

Every instrument arrives from the factory equipped with premium L.R. Baggs™ VTC electronics, which include an under-saddle Element pickup and an onboard preamp to ensure a natural acoustic sound for both studio and stage performances. For effortless adjustments that remain largely unseen by the audience, volume and tone controls are placed subtly along the edge of the soundhole. Furthermore, each guitar includes a Gibson Custom hardshell case to provide security during storage and transport.
