Mooloolaba Music is thrilled to announce the arrival of the Gibson ES-335 50s model, a perfect choice for musicians seeking a guitar that embodies versatility while boasting modern construction inspired by the specifications of guitars from the 1950s.
This exceptional instrument showcases all the quintessential elements of the original ES-335 designs, which first captivated audiences in 1958. The ES-335 50s features a semi-hollow, thinline body composed of three-ply maple, poplar, and maple, centered around a solid maple block that enhances sustain and minimizes feedback. For an extra touch of elegance, the body is accented with single-ply cream binding along both the top and back edges.
True to its heritage, the mahogany neck on this model is built with a robust Rounded C profile, delivering a comfortable, substantial feel. The fretboard, crafted from bound rosewood, includes 22 medium jumbo frets that are enhanced by classic acrylic dot inlays, reflecting the iconic appearance of the early “dot neck” ES-335s. Completing the headstock are Vintage Deluxe tuners featuring keystone buttons that, together with the Graph Tech® nut, ensure excellent tuning stability. The headstock is also elegantly finished with a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and crown inlay.
On the opposite end of the guitar, the ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, paired with an aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece, not only contributes to the extensive sustain but also allows for significant adjustments in action height and individual string intonation, enabling musicians to fine-tune their playing experience to their liking.
The ES-335 50s is equipped with a duo of Custombucker pickups featuring Alnico 3 magnets, celebrated for their capacity to reproduce the enchanting tones of the coveted Patent Applied For humbucker™ pickups from the late 1950s. Each pickup is connected to hand-wired 500k volume and tone controls, complemented by a three-way pickup selector toggle switch, which together offer the remarkable tonal flexibility the ES-335 is renowned for.
The vintage-inspired aesthetic is further enhanced with a ’59-style, five-ply long pickguard and gold Top Hat knobs with dial pointers. This stunning guitar is available in a selection of finishes: Vintage Tobacco Burst, Vintage Natural, and Ebony gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. To top it all off, a Gibson hardshell case is included, making this the ideal ES-335 for those who appreciate the larger neck profile and classic styling of the earliest models that have captured the hearts of players for over six decades.
