Tailored for contemporary guitarists who demand both high-level professional execution and cutting-edge features, the new Epiphone Futura Series serves as the ultimate creative partner. These "Inspired by Gibson" instruments provide the essential tonal quality and aesthetic appeal required for every arena of modern musicianship, including live stage performances, professional studio work, and high-quality content production. With a bold visual presence defined by unique color-shifting finishes, the series also boasts custom-designed pickups and highly versatile electronics—including phase switching and coil-splitting capabilities—to ensure players distinguish themselves both in sight and sound. Furthermore, these instruments emphasize a forward-thinking design philosophy, incorporating top-tier elements like stainless steel frets, compound-radius fingerboards, and optimized neck profiles to satisfy the needs of any dedicated performer.

Epiphone is thrilled to revitalize the beloved cult classic Gibson RD by introducing the Futura RD Custom, a sophisticated, contemporary reimagining of the design that first debuted ahead of its time in 1977. This instrument captures a signature silhouette that is instantly recognizable, effectively merging key design aspects of both the Firebird and the Explorer. The guitar is constructed with a sculpted mahogany body that provides both a refined look through its elegant 7-ply top binding and a high degree of comfort via its contoured back.

To maintain reliable sustain and flawless intonation, the instrument is equipped with a LockTone Stop Bar tailpiece and a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge, alongside Posi-Lok strap buttons that eliminate the need for additional hardware to keep your strap attached. The 25.5” scale mahogany neck is shaped into a fast Modern C profile and features a bound ebony fingerboard outfitted with 22 stainless steel medium jumbo frets and distinctive Super 400-style pearloid split block inlays. Playing comfort is enhanced by a 10”-14” compound radius that facilitates smooth bends and easy chording, while the extended scale length serves as an excellent platform for drop tunings. The instrument is topped with a 5-ply bound Kalamazoo headstock, complete with a Graph Tech nut, locking Grover Rotomatic tuners, and mother-of-pearl Custom split diamond and Epiphone inlays.

The Futura RD Custom derives its voice from a duo of newly engineered Epiphone ProBucker Ignite humbuckers, which provide a articulate, powerful sound characterized by exceptional clarity. Musicians can access a vast range of tonal possibilities through push/pull volume and tone controls that activate phase and coil-splitting options. Offered in three captivating Chromashift finish options—Firestorm Shift, Twilight Shift, and Midnight Ember Shift—this guitar is specifically crafted to command attention whether you are performing on stage or filming for the screen. Whether your focus is on achieving a wide sonic palette, utilizing a long-scale instrument for drop tuning, or embracing a modern aesthetic, the Futura RD Custom is perfectly equipped to advance your musical journey. Every unit comes with a premium gig bag, ensuring your instrument is ready to accompany you wherever your inspiration leads.
