Description
Introducing the RT-2 Rotary Ensemble, a remarkable pedal designed to deliver the stunning sound of rotary speaker cabinets without the bulk and heft that often limits accessibility. Powered by cutting-edge BOSS advancements, this pedal captures the expressive spatial effects of traditional rotary speakers in a compact format that seamlessly fits into any setup. The RT-2 authentically recreates the intricate sonic nuances of its predecessors, offering three distinct sound modes, extensive tonal shaping options, and advanced functionality through its onboard pedal switch and external control.
Originally developed for organs in the 1940s, rotary speakers generate captivating modulation effects through motor-controlled components that rotate within the cabinet at varying speeds. This dynamic sound has become integral to the classic combo organ voice, and musicians across genres—including guitarists—have harnessed rotary speakers to enrich their tracks with a signature depth and movement that remains timeless.
The most celebrated rotary speaker designs incorporate a high-frequency horn alongside a bass rotor that spins within a rotating drum. By alternating rotor speeds between fast and slow, musicians craft a continuous stream of tonal variations that enhance expressiveness. The RT-2 superbly emulates these audio behaviors, equipped with two-way speed control, a Rise/Fall Time switch for customizable speed transitions, and a vibrant indicator that tracks the virtual rotors' rotation.
With the RT-2’s three-position Mode switch, users can easily access the classic rotary speaker sound alongside two modern variations refined through expert BOSS tuning. Mode I offers an authentic recreation of the legendary vintage rotary speaker sound, enhancing the tone of any instrument—from guitar and bass to organs and synths. Mode II presents a richer vintage sound with a broader tonal range, particularly effective when paired with overdrive and distortion pedals. Mode III delivers a definition-rich experience with intense modulation and drive settings, amplifying the impact of arpeggio lines and solos.
Drawing inspiration from vintage tube amplification circuits, the RT-2 features a Drive knob that introduces a desirable level of distortion, ranging from subtle warmth to gritty intensity. Additionally, a rear-panel switch allows this dual-function control to adjust the volume balance between the treble and bass rotors, enabling fine-tuning of various tonal characteristics. Impressively, your most recent settings for drive and balance are automatically saved in memory, making them readily available the next time you power up.
Real-time speed control is fundamental to the rotary experience, and the RT-2 offers an array of options to facilitate it. The pedal switch provides four operation types, presenting innovative ways to bypass the effect and alter speeds during performance. For further customization, you can connect up to two external footswitches for independent speed control, along with a “brake” setting that halts the virtual rotors at their current positions for distinctive tones. Alternatively, an expression pedal grants continuous control over level, drive, balance, and speed, with flexible assignment capabilities for each parameter, ensuring a personalized playing experience.
