For more than five decades, Dr. Wendal Jones and his innovative company, Jones Double Reed Products (JDRP), have been crafting high-quality reeds for oboes and bassoons. The journey began in the 1960s, when Dr. Jones, a dedicated teacher at the University of Arizona, started making reeds at his kitchen table for his students. As word spread, the demand for his expertly made reeds grew, with professional double reed musicians and school music directors seeking his creations. Recognizing the need for consistent quality, Dr. Jones turned his attention to sourcing machinery that could streamline the reed-making process. However, faced with the limitations of the available equipment, he embarked on a mission to design and construct the necessary tools himself, setting the foundation for a legacy in reed production.
